Representation as inspiration
This site is dedicated to creating rich arts education with a focus on Representation as Inspiration: BIPOC; people of color/People of the World Majority, differently abled peoples including neurodiversity, and LGBTQIA+ peoples. Our pedagogy touches on place based learning, social emotional learning (SEL), and art education that reaches into production, critique and ourstory (history) and a desire to create cross curricular connections.
With this is mind our lessons start with the youngest children building skills that are necessary for art production and self awareness.

The Tenents of our Pedagogy:
Representation as Inspiration: a part of the Antiracist art movement and a window into art from a diversity perspective:
Place Based: an approach that connects learning and communities with the primary goals of increasing student engagement, boosting academic outcomes, impacting communities and promoting understanding of the world around us.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL):Self-Awareness. Self-Management. Social Awareness. Relationship Skills. Responsible Decision-Making.
Studio Thinking/Studio Skills https://www.studiothinking.org/the-framework.html
Crosscurricular Connections and a framework for arts integration
Literature base skills lessons for the youngest learners.
Storytelling: Creating art is a method of telling a story about a time, space, person, event. If one looks at art not just as a excercis in the elements and principles of art, but also as a story; what tale is the artist telling, what does the observer learn.
